Differences between the danish and english system of higher education
In this part of the journal, I will compare my studies in Denmark with the course “diversity and participation” at CCCU.
What is the differences between the danish and english system of higher education?
In Denmark I am studying at the teachers education. I have finished the subject Danish literature and I am currently studying bilingualism.
To start with I would like to compare the didactics according to both studies. In Denmark, the lectures are primarily directed towards social constructivism. The lectures are therefore structured by the teacher elaborating the theoretics, then a group assignment, which then will lead to either a group presentation or a joint evaluation.
In my opinion one of the strengths of this method, is the verbally training of the students, and the training of functioning in teams.
Where as I see a weakness, due to the fact, that the students are not forced to write down their academic-reflections.
I find my danish study more directed towards the practice of teaching, where as I have enjoyed the theoretic and more academic approach at CCCU.
Assignments and exam
For each course we have four overall themes of one year, and to each theme, we have to make a short assignment. In the end of the semester, there will be made a draw, and which ever theme that is being picked, will require a more fulfilling assignment, that we will be verbally examined in.
In this case, I would describe the danish assignment method as task and project orientated.
Whereas my experience from CCCU, aim towards a process-oriented writing, where the student´s academic-reflections are in centrum for learning. From my view, this is bound by the student´s ability to find appropriate sources, to support his academic-reflections. In relation to this, you get a dynamic and open curriculum, which is based on the key aspects that appeal mostly to the student.
